Pentcheva’s research has opened a new field of exploration: audiovision in the Middle Ages. Just like formerly, the studies of film did not include exploration of sound, so too art history for a century has only engaged with the visual without taking into consideration the sonic. The film ––Seeing Through Chant: Sainte Foy at Conques––explores the story of a thousand-year old building, its music and its art, revealing the complex shared structures between chant and the visual. This production offers a perfect blend between deep past and modern technology. It shows the relevance of the premodern art in our times: so focused on the present and the moment.
